Bonaventure Cemetery

Just a few miles from the historic district, lies the hauntingly beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery. Originally a plantation, the property morphed into a private then public cemetery owned by the city.

Famous not only Johnny Mercer's resting place, but also the former site of the "Bird Girl" statue that graces the cover of John Berendt's novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Also made famous by the movie starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack by the same name.
